Recognizing April as Fair Housing Month and affirming the City's commitment to addressing the impediments to fair housing identified in the Analysis to Impediments to Fair Housing Choice in the City of Toledo.

Summary
WHEREAS, the month of April is recognized as "Fair Housing Month," which honors the passage of the Fair Housing Act that serves the City of Toledo and the nation through assistance in ensuring equal access to housing to all members in the community pursuing the American Dream; and

WHEREAS, The Fair Housing Center along with a group of dedicated people from the Northwest Ohio area including those from ABLE, the Ability Center, Lucas Metropolitan Housing and the City of Toledo are working to enact the recommendations included in the AI - Analysis of Impediments action plan; and

WHEREAS, important elements of the Action Plan include: enacting ban the box legislation; making more affordable housing choices available to residents; setting a standard for housing compliance for private housing providers; enforcing current visitability and accessibility rules; encouraging developers to increase accessibility; changing policies to welcome the development of affordable group, permanent supportive, and recovery housing; changing policies and practices to ensure access to housing that is safe, healthy, and habitable; and

WHEREAS, some action items have already been implemented including Source of Income protection; NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

SECTION 1. That The Fair Housing Center is hereby commended for its contributions to the community and toward increasing access to protections, advocacy, and education relating to fair housing in celebration of April as Fair Housing Month.
