Recognizing Ms. Nina Corder for winning the Toledo-area Jefferson Award.
Summary
WHEREAS, on Thursday, April 8, 2021, Ms. Nina Corder was awarded the Toledo area Jefferson Award qualifying her for the national award that is to be presented in Washington D.C. later this year; and
WHEREAS, the Jefferson Awards are known as "an American Nobel Prize for public service." founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Sam Beard, and Senator Robert Taft Jr., the Jefferson Awards has honored individuals for outstanding public service; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Corder, originally from Malaysia has been a resident of Toledo for the past twenty-two years, attending the University of Toledo for both her Bachelor's and Master's programs, and Lourdes University for her PhD.; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Corder established Women of Toledo as part of her Doctoral Degree Dissertation and has been the executive director of the non-profit as well as consulting for people relocating to the area from other countries; and
WHEREAS, some of Nina's accomplishments include being a member of the White House Council on Women & Girls under Obama Administration, a member of the United Nation (UN) Women- Empower Women Initiative as Global Champions for Change, an Executive Member for the City of Toledo, Human Relations Commission, Past- President of American Association of University Women (AAUW)-Toledo Branch and serve the City of Toledo's Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) ordinance; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That we recognize the amazing accomplishments of Ms. Nina Corder and wish her continued success in her service to the community.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
