Memorializing Phil Copeland and his Dedication to Public Service.
Summary
WHEREAS, Phil Copeland was born seventy five years ago in Toledo and he resided in Northwest Ohio for most of his life, the majority of which proved to be dedicated to public service; and
WHEREAS, Phil was a proud graduate of the Toledo Public School’s Scott High School GED program then excelled through the ranks of Local 500 of the Laborers International Union of North America to become a respected Labor Leader who served as its Business Manager and also as Secretary-Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Copeland went on to become one of our region’s most respected business and legislative policymakers who diligently advocated for the citizens of Toledo as Toledo City Councilman, At-Large beginning in 2005, and also, following in the footsteps of his uncle, the late Bill Copeland, as Lucas County Recorder beginning in 2012, where he was re-elected to both positions respectively; and
WHEREAS, Phil Copeland was a gentleman with a hello, smile and stern handshake that always had a working man’s value at heart, and lived an inspiring life that is a shining example of resilience, decency and the power of personal change; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That the inspiring life of Phil Copeland be hereby recognized and he is honored for his contribution to the rich history of Toledo and Northwest Ohio.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
