Title
Recognize Sheriff John Tharp on the occasion of his retirement after 50 years in local law enforcement.
Summary
WHEREAS, John Tharp started his career in the Toledo Police Department where he was first a uniformed officer that went on to serve in the homicide division, the gang task force, and narcotics task force; and
WHEREAS, Sheriff Tharp continued to pursue his career in Law Enforcement by transitioning to the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, serving as Sheriff for the last several years since January of 2013, and being re-elected in 2016; and
WHEREAS, Sheriff Tharp, in response to certain needs throughout our community, is credited for initiating programs for homeless veterans and inner-city children, but his most significant contribution was forming the Drug Abuse Task Force which assigns officers to people who overdose on drugs and gets them connected to treatment in lieu of prison time; and
WHEREAS, Sheriff Tharp is wished good health and happiness throughout his retirement as he intends to travel, enjoy his grandchildren and spend time with family and friends; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Sheriff John Tharp is hereby recognized for his outstanding leadership and he is honored for his contributions to the City of Toledo, Lucas County and Northwest Ohio!
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
