Memorializing the life of Yehia Hussein “John” Shousher.
Summary
WHEREAS, Yehia Hussein “John” Shousher was born in 1927 in Qaroun, Lebanon; and
WHEREAS, John was five years old when passed away and in 1949 he emigrated to Ontario, Canada with his mother and five siblings; and
WHEREAS, John married the love of his life, Emney, in 1952 and they moved to Toledo in 1953 and began their family of six children; and
WHEREAS, John always dreamed of building a mosque in his new hometown and he did so in 1954, the first mosque in Ohio and the third in the United States; and
WHEREAS, John worked tirelessly to build bridges between people of all faiths and genuinely demonstrated the love and commitment he had for Toledo; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council memorializes the life of Yehia Hussein “John” Shousher, a goodwill ambassador across faiths and cultures, and expresses deepest sympathy to his wife of 67 years, Emney, and to his children, sister, brothers, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
