Recognizing J. Adam Maguire.
Summary
WHEREAS, from the bargaining table to the picket line, J. Adam Maguire has earned a reputation of being a tireless advocate for fairness in the workplace and he believes that workers should be provided financial stability, access to education, affordable healthcare and retirement benefits; and
WHEREAS, in 2012 Mr. Maguire began working on behalf of the members of The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), a union comprised of a diverse group of people who share a common commitment to public service in their mission to advocate for the vital services that keep our families safe and make our communities strong; and
WHEREAS, since then Mr. Maguire, in his position as Staff Representative with AFSCME Ohio Council 8, has helped to negotiate collective bargaining agreements for organized laborers across northwestern Ohio including those with the City of Toledo Clerk of Courts, Toledo Area Metroparks, Lucas County Jobs and Family Services, Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities and the Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Maguire remains dedicated to community activism having served on the Toledo Board of Community Relations and the City of Toledo Healthcare Cost Containment Committee. He also continues to encourage young people to exercise their political power by engaging them to participate in the political & electoral processes. Additionally, Mr. Maguire has been instrumental throughout Northwestern Ohio in fighting against hunger whereby he established the Martin Luther King Food Drive and he has worked with the Islamic Food Bank of Toledo delivering hot meals to those in need, and more; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That J. Adam Maguire is hereby recognized for his commitment to the hardworking men and women of Northwest Ohio, and he is wish well in his mission for all future endeavors.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
