Recognizing Toledo Celtics 2005 Black Team as the 2019 Gothia Cup Champions, in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Summary
WHEREAS, the Toledo Celtics Soccer Club has consistently cultivated talent and discipline among young athletes since it was established by Dr. James A. King and Khalil Lee Aliakbar in 1987 and incorporated in 1990; and
WHEREAS, a cornerstone of youth sports in Toledo and Lucas County for nearly thirty years, the club has successfully contributed to the character development and skills that will prepare young participants for the challenges they will face throughout their lives by emphasizing both hard work and creativity; and
WHEREAS, the club has an extensive history of effective team development, claiming victory over teams from countries as diverse as Sweden, Norway, Brazil, and the United Kingdom; and
WHEREAS, this determination paid off this year when the 14-15 year-old boys’ team was invited to participate in two prestigious European tournaments whereby the team reached the semi-finals in the Cup No.1 tournament in Denmark before traveling to Sweden to compete for the “Gothia Cup”. Only the teams of the utmost caliber are invited to participate in the Gothia Cup; the largest international youth soccer tournament anywhere in the world. In this contest, their unwavering resolve led them to a hard-fought victory and the right to claim the Gothia Cup Championship in their age group; NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That the Toledo Celtics Soccer Club is recognized and applauded for their ongoing contribution to Toledo and Lucas County youth, and for the victory of the 14-15 year-old boys’ team in the Gothia Club Tournament.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
