Urging banks, credit unions and other financial agencies to create and continue to offer programs and work with federal employees, non-profit organizations and contractors affected by the government shutdown.

Summary
WHEREAS, the partial government shutdown is affecting federal employees, non-profit organizations and contractors who are not receiving paychecks; and

WHEREAS, hundreds of thousands of federal employees, non-profit organizations and contractors are either off the job or working without pay during the shutdown; and

WHEREAS, the government shutdown has created financial stress for these workers and they need assistance from banks, credit unions, other financial agencies and retail during this time; and

WHEREAS, City Council urges all banks, credit unions and other financial agencies to create programs and work with federal employees and contractors by waiving overdraft fees on checking accounts and providing a low rate, extension loan program for those affected; NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

SECTION 1. That Toledo City Council urges all banks, credit unions and other financial agencies to create and continue to offer programs and work with federal employees and contractors by waiving overdraft fees on checking accounts and providing a low rate, extension loan program for those affected by the government shutdown.

SECTION 2. That it is ordered and directed that, once adopted, the Clerk of Council shall send a copy of this Resolution to all banks, credit unions and other financial agencies located in the city of Toledo.
SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after the earliest date allowed by law.
