Affirming Our Commitment to Being a Welcoming and Inclusive Community For All.

 

Summary

WHEREAS, the bombs sent to public figureheads who share a different political viewpoint, the shooting of two black community members at a Kroger in Kentucky, and the recent mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh have created concern for our Nation; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Toledo recognizes hate crimes and actions have taken place within our City that cause some to feel unwelcomed and fear for their safety; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Toledo would like to reiterate that we have zero-tolerance for such crimes and actions; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Toledo would like to recognize the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion within our City and understands that they are key to the City’s success and growth; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Toledo is committed to continuing to build a welcoming, inclusive and equitable community for all of its inhabitants regardless of race, ethnicity, class, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, immigration status, or physical or mental ability; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Toledo is proud of its diversity and strives to engage diversity and difference among its community members through our policies, initiatives and recognitions such as our anti-discrimination ordinances, Welcome TLC and Toledo was recently awarded a perfect score for the Human Rights Campaign Municipal Equality Index; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Toledo will continue to promote and adopt policies and programs that improve our culture of diversity, equity and inclusion and further improve the relationship between all members of our community and the City, including public officials and law enforcement; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:

            SECTION 1.  That Toledo City Council adopts "Affirming Our Commitment to Being a Welcoming and Inclusive Community For All" as a key policy for our community, and recommends the use of inclusion as a key component to develop policies, procedures, tactics, and practical guidance to integrate inclusion in programs to address the holistic wellness in our community, especially as it relates to those most at-risk.

 

                     SECTION 2.                     That this resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after the earliest date allowed by law.
