Recognizing Mr. Jitendra “Jay” Singh for being a good Samaritan, his compassion and act of kindness.
Summary
WHEREAS, Mr. Jitendra “Jay” Singh, the owner of the 7-Eleven at the corner of Upton and Berdan for nearly five years, looks out for his neighbors and is proud to help those in the community when he can; and
WHEREAS, while reviewing his store’s surveillance video, Mr. Singh caught a teen attempting to steal food items from his store; and
WHEREAS, the teen was asked, “Do you want me to call the cops or will you take [the items] out; and when confronted, the teen said, “I’m stealing for myself. I’m hungry, and I’m doing it for my younger brother”; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Singh made the decision rather than call the cops, he would provide him a meal; he sent the teen back to the aisles to grab sandwiches and other food-all free of charge; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Singh recognized, “It’s not going to make a difference to me if I give him some food because we make a lot of food, we sell a lot of food; [however,] if he goes to jail then he’s definitely not going to do anything good in life;” NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Toledo:
SECTION 1. That we recognize Mr. Jitendra “Jay” Singh for being a good Samaritan, his compassion and act of kindness.
SECTION 2. That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
